Every good story should start from the beginning, and this one is no exception. It was the spring semester of 2002 and I was taking business classes at a university in the southern part of Mississippi. It was there that I crossed paths with a colorful and interesting guy, who at the time, shared the same goal as I did of getting finished with school and trying our hands at something besides sitting in a desk. Our friendship quickly grew into spending more time doing things outside of the classroom that required little to no thought.
On July 4th of that same year, my girlfriend Jamie, who is now my wife, and I were invited over to his place for an outdoor cookout that he had planned. I had always enjoyed taking part in cookouts, so passing up on the invitation was out of the question. I quickly realized that the bbq sauce he was using was unlike anything I had ever seen before. "What kind of sauce is this?" I can remember asking him as he continued mopping it over some pork ribs. Not really knowing where it had got its start, he did explain that it was a very old bbq/marinade sauce recipe that had been in his family for years and that they enjoyed sharing it with friends at times like these. I must admit that when I was handed one of those ribs hot off of the grill, I found myself in a state of euforia with a taste like I had never experienced from any other bbq sauce before. It was at that moment that I realized this sauce must be given a unique name to compliment its unique flavor.
Over the years, we have had many cookouts and a lot of help by our fans in adjusting the taste of the sauce to perfection, as well as have been given many suggestions on what its name should be. Unfortunately, ideas for names came and went, but nothing ever stuck. However, it occurred to me one day to keep it simple by giving this sauce a name that reflects the friendship that we have as well as some of the experiences we have survived. Hence, Wild n Mild was born. It is my hopes that Wild n Mild Grilling and Marinade Sauce brings as many good times and memories to your back porch as it always has to ours. To great times, great friends, and great food.
